While trying to shrink a graphic to less than 5 k (it cannot be any bigger for upload), I will be able to make the resolution about 3.5 k, but once I save it, it bounces up to 6.05 k. whay is it doing that? I need the file sizes less than 5k or I cannot upload them.
I even used the 'Optimize' menu from the 'Save for Web and Devices' dialog box... and even when I have it set for less than 5k, it always ends up bigger upon save.
Any ideas?
File size increases while saving?5k is very small, seems strange you cannot upload something slightly larger. If you are saving as a jpg, then this would be normal, have you tried saving as a gif?
File size increases while saving? It's a database face photo - 150 dpi square, which is normally not a problem. In all previous versions of Photoshop, this hasn't happened.
However, after looking at all the settings, I realized that photoshop includes metadata as an option. Once I set that to 'none' I was able to keep the small photo sizes.
Thank you for your help!
In general terms, Save_For_Web is what you want. There, you can set the file size, and it will strip away almost everything (at your descretion with CS4). With many other means of Saving, you get previews, which you do not want, and other ''stuff.'' The sizes can be much larger, than necessary, unless you need that ''stuff.''
Good luck,

Thank you for your reply. You are correct- in CS4, there is an option for metfile info, which has been slightly increasing the size of my files and taking them over the limit set for me. I chose ''none'' under that option and the file saves as the originally predicted size.
Great and glad that it worked for you. This was a change in CS4, and has tripped some users of previous versions up a bit. It's a good thing, so long as you know that it's there.
